The waning days of my employment as an educational consultant are here, and all I can think is, damn, I really like doing this. I've had a rewarding week. Teachers came with questions, and, remarkably, I had answers. What will happen to their questions in the future?

That's just too sad. Teachers will still need good professional development. Perhaps a couple years in the classroom and then you can hit the road again armed with even more street cred.
